Progress is clearest when you identify the immediate blocker: a missing resource, insufficient protection, an unfinished quest or a skill requirement. Improve the system connected to that blocker, then reassess.
Keep systems connected
Skills, equipment, building and exploration reinforce each other. Advance a few related systems together so a new unlock can be used immediately instead of creating a stockpile you cannot yet apply.
